Tidbits

From My 4 year old.

W: Should I call you Momma or Mommy?
Momma: You can call me both.

W: Momma do chocolate chips grow in the dirt?
Momma: No (I then go on to explain where chocolate comes from.)
W: Ohhh

Last night over dinner.
W: What's this daddy?
Daddy: It's spinach.
W: I don't want it.
Daddy: But mommy grows it in the garden.
W: Mommy didn't grow this in the garden she got this from the store.
Daddy: Yes but she's growing the same thing in the garden and we'll eat it soon.
W: OH (He seems happy with this answer and thus eats his spinach.)

Photo Tag

I thought I'd join Aliceson from Feet Off The Table and post the 6th photo in my 6th folder. There was actually only 2 photos in the folder, two different poses in this ensemble. This is W back when we were starting to get things moving with putting stuff in storage to get the house on the market, sometime in September. He looks a wee bit goofy aye?!

Baby J 9.5 months

Baby J is now 9.5 months. He's crawling all over the place. My other two babes didn't start until around the age of 1-this is new for all of us! And he's also waving. This may sound dumb but honestly I didn't know 9 month old babies could wave, that they were capable. He also repeats sounds that you say. If we say "da da da da" he'll say it. He'll also say "ma ma ma ma" and "ba ba ba ba". Tonight I said to him "no no no no" and he said "na na na na". He also does this funny thing where he'll scrunch his upper lip up to his nose and then inhale through his nose and then we'll laugh and it makes him sniff louder and then we'll both laugh together. He's really a cutie, we're lovin him.
I just bought a new baby carrier today so I can keep him close while the other babes play about. I already have a Sleepy Wrap a Hip Hammock and a Snugli. I know, I know! Why the hell did I buy another one?! I wanted something that didn't completley tie the babe to me but instead allowed us both a bit more freedom unlike the Sleepy Wrap (although I plan to use it to carry the other babes on my back or the Huz's back when we're out as a family). The Hip Hammock doesn't necessarily tie the baby to me but it's a carrier that I can't use really at all b/c when Baby J is in it the strap on it digs into my neck and it's not very supportive to my back after even just a few minutes. I've really not used the Snugli too much with any of the kids. I was out with W taking a walk when he was a babe and I almost fell b/c I couldn't see my feet and I felt awkward with it on. The baby carriers I was considering were the Hotsling or the Poppy Pouch (silly ass names I know.) I went to a local store today, Sprout Soup, and tried on a bunch of wraps and slings. I ended up loving the Scootababy Carrier. It's kind of funny b/c I was not at all interested in it but the lady helping me told me it was her favorite so I thought I'd give it a go. I wore that sucker around the store, with Baby J in if for almost an hour! They have awesome things there so of course I had to look around. The Scootababy is incredibly comfortable and I felt that Baby J was totally secure and although I had some slight pain in my hips, I don't recall my back hurting at all! I'm excited to take the kids out and about more now since I found a comfortable carrier that frees me so I can sprint across the room in enough time to save Super N from certain death.

Speaking of Super N... she's almost 2.5. She just ate a pb & j can you tell? What a fun, polite and sassy litte girl! She is talking so much now and asks questions. I just filled out paperwork for her to start preschool next August. She'll go two days a week and I know she'll love it.

Oh my gosh this kid is talking so much now! He is incredibly inquisitive and full of imagination. He really loves preschool and although sometimes he gets sad when I drop him off, b/c he doesn't want me to leave, he seems to recover pretty quickly and jumps right in.
I had a conference with his teacher a few months ago and she mentioned he was an excellent artist. That's my kid! He also doesn't transition well and gets timeout for talking...yeah that's my kid too! It's so cool to see this in him since art is such a love of mine! But more b/c he truly seems happy when he's drawing or playing with playdoh or doing someother craft. He will turn 4 soon, I can't believe it!

The Eldest Little Monty

I love my oldest dearly. I can recall everything about his birth even though I've birthed 3 babes in about 3 years. I remember when I was in labor his heart rate kept dropping so they broke my water to put a monitor on his head. Upon breaking my water they discovered there wasn't much and the little bit that was there had meconium in it. There seemed to be a bit of worry and panic in the room at that point. The nurses called NICU and decided to fast forward my delivery to get him out. After he made his entrance, I wasn't able to hold him right away b/c the NICU nurses swooped him up and had to check him out thoroughly for fear that he had meconium in his lungs. This as you can imagine was all a bit frightening but he ended up being okay and I got to hold him about 2.5 hours later.

I remember being asked if I wanted him in the room that first night and all I could think was if he leaves my sight he would be stolen or swapped with someone else's babe! When they left him with me I recall standing over his little crib and just crying b/c I couldn't believe he came from my body and that such a miracle could occur. I also recall about 2 hours later being scared awake out of my exhaustion by a screaming infant! The Hub and I at that point desparately fought for the nurse call button to get him shuttled to the nursery.

I cried so much during the next few days, weeks, and months. I cried b/c I was so in awe of this little miracle. I cried b/c I was grieved that breast feeding was so painful and that I had to quit so soon b/c of infection. I cried b/c of lack of sleep and post partum depression. I cried b/c my nether region had changed and I couldn't believe that it would ever be functional again!

Things did get better when he started to sleep through the night and I got used to having a baby. I remember that first summer I would sit in a chair in the living room and watch Gilmore Girls and feed W. To this day he recognizes the show's theme song! I also would walk him around the block often-just he and I.

When W was 1 week shy of his 1st birthday he started crawling. We ended up in the ER that same week b/c he pulled a lamp down onto his head resulting in a large knot and a cut on his forehead. It was so swollen I couldn't tell if the cut needed stitches so I took him to the ER.

When he turned 1 he got really stubborn and he seemed frustrated a lot of the time. That year was a bit of a trial for me b/c I was pregnant with Super N, we had our bathroom remodeled and W seemed to throw a lot of tantrums. I could tell he was frustrated b/c of the inability to communicate, I felt sorry for him (and for myself at times!)

He started to walk at 18 months. I remember before Super N was born I would pray that W would be walking before I gave birth. But that wasn't the case. I can remember carrying both babes down the stairs in the morning, I did that for 3 months! That was a challenging period of time for many reasons.

When W turned 2 it was if he had a pocket full of words he was saving to use for when he turned 2. He had always communicated jibber jabber and said a few words (1st word was vacuum-no kidding!) but it just took off at that point. W's second year, if I had to sum it up, was all about him talking and trying to keep him from taking his sister out.

Fast forward to the here and now...Here is a pic of my three year old ready to burst into tears b/c Super N gets to hold Baby J.

The age of three is really enjoyable for us most of the time. There are some qualities that well...are a little more difficult to enjoy at times. But nonetheless W is 3 and we love him regardless! The little Turkey!

To list a few of his milestones/quirks:

  • Our 3 year old can talk in mostly complete sentences making it easier for him to communicate his needs and wants.

  • He's more patient.

  • His tantrums are less frequent and they're more controlled it seems.

  • When he gets an ouchy he can tell us what exactly hurts.

  • He seems more interested in others.

  • He tells his 2 year old sister, "It's okay."

  • He likes to have conversations.

  • He asks "why" all the time!

W's First Day of Preschool

W's first day of preschool was yesterday. He was so excited! When I took him to the classroom I stuck around for about a half an hour b/c he was very apprehensive and scared. But his teacher Mrs. F swooped in and let him sit with her, that was all it took and he was fine with out mom for a few hours.
I didn't cry. I was a bit overwhelmed by the whole thing mostly b/c there is no ramp into the school and so I couldn't take the stroller in. We were running late and so I quickly grabbed Baby J and herded the other two into the school. I of course didn't anticipate holding Baby J for over a half an hour or debating with Super N about why she couldn't stay, her time will be next year.
When I picked W up he was so excited! He was quick to tell me that he went down the red slide and that he got a sticker and then showed me by shoving it under my nose. He was so cute!
I did waant to find out how Potty Time went so I asked Mrs. D his other teacher. She sais she really didn't know b/c she doesn't go into the bathroom with the boys. I assumed he would be too scared to go and I was affirmed soon after as we got out of the van at home, he peed on one of the seats in the van. Another reason why I searched my butt off to get a used van w/ leather upholstery! He returns tomorrow and must brave preschool w/ 19 other kids. Fun. fun!

My Little Preschooler

W starts Preschool next Tuesday. He was supposed to start tomorrow morning but the teacher asked if I would mind he instead start next Tuesday b/c their class has 20 kids and she's afraid if they all come the first day it will be too overwhelming. So W and 9 other students will show up next Tuesday and the other 10 will show up tomorrow. Then his preschool class will officially start with all of his classmates in attendance next Thursday.
I started off the summer unsure if he'd be able to attend school since we were just in the beginning stages of potty training but he's done really well. It wasn't until two weeks ago that I felt confident that he could attend, I'm very grateful. I know he'll love it and I'm very excited for him. I do wonder if I'll cry after I walk him to class and process through what's happening- my baby is starting school and will be there for the next 15 or so years! Life is changing every day and my babes are growing. Super N is talking a lot more now, W is starting school, Baby J is cooing and smiling and kicking and just generally more content. Time moves so fast even though a day feels very long in this season of life.

Potty Training Update

I may go ahead and enroll W in preschool in the next few weeks. He can go pretty much the whole day without a diaper. He even pooped in the toilet yesterday. I think he's starting to get it and likes it.

Removing the Stitches

I took W to OSU today to have the stitches on his cheek removed. Hopefully the scars will fade over time since he's only 2 years old. The stitches in his eye should dissolve over the next few weeks.

W learning his colors

I had the intention to go over colors with W today. He knows yellow but he usually calls most colors yellow. Sometimes though he will say green.
I had bought finger paints about 8 months or so ago. I've been avoiding bringing them out b/c of the mess but I planned to show them to W at some point.
Well W found them today in one of his craft boxes. He was determined that we'd play with them.I taped newspaper on the dining room table, put his smock on him, and put him in his booster chair. We then began. He moved the paint around on the paper and then tasted it. He then put it on his nose. And then my nose. And then his cheek, my cheek, etc.
It was fun!
This was a great hands-on experience for him to learn his colors.

Independent Man

He's almost 2! I can't believe it. He has such a mind of his own these days. He's mastered tantrums I'd say and now says "mine" thanks to the Y childcare! No but seriously he is such a great baby. I'm so happy he's in my life. I just read something and immediatley thought "that's so true!". Someone in a book said "the days are long but the years are short". My how that is true! I miss my baby being cuddly and unable to crawl, he needed me to carry him around. But i enjoy seeing my independent son learning new things and mastering the art of talking. He's just a hoot! Some days are really hard, most these days honestly, but it's short right and I'm trying really hard to enjoy him. Posted by Picasa

20 months & 4 months, my babes

George got married to Paula this past weekend. We attended the wedding which was in DC. It was a hairy weekend to say the least. Truckin two babes under two onto a plane and into a hotel for 3 days and then around town and then back onto a plane, is a bit torturous. Next time we go to DC we will drive!

My Little Kidlets

My babies, i love them so much! People have always said you don't know how much you really love someone until you have kids, it sooo true! It kills me to think of not being there to protect them at all times. I know it's going to be a challenge for me to watch them grow and to allow them their freedom and space. What a stewardship the Hub and i have been given.

Silly Walker

Our baby started walking officially on Sept. 23. He is now Eighteen months old and has taken his time in perfecting his trademark swagger! We are very proud of him and laugh at his cute little self walking throughout the house, with his feet turned outward and his little chubby belly leading the way. It's very bittersweet seeing him get bigger and more independent. I do look forward though to him being able to talk to me and hearing about the things he thinks about.

Eighteen Months Old

My silly Eighteen month old bebe! He's got almost all his teeth now and he's using them to eat lost of crackers which he loves. He loves crackers so much that he refers to most things as crackers, well those things he likes that is. The dog "cracker" a truck outside "cracker" his bear "cracker".
He's such a great kid!

Waiting On Super N

Look at this little munch!
He's so photogenic it just cracks me up.
I realize it's been a long time since i've blogged about life and bebe's. Let's see, i am now 37 weeks pregnant (today actually). The little boy above is now 16 months. He's walking along furniture now and by holding our hands. He also got a walking toy for Christmas from his Aunt Leah, Uncle Bill and cousins Emma, Jadon, Kara, and Ava. He loves his walking toy and can often be found motoring through the house with it. I hope he can somehow pick up the walking thing in the next two weeks since my baby is coming out then.

Oh yes new baby. Super N will arrive at/around Aug 9th/10th that is if she doesn't appear earlier. Which i hope she does choose to appear earlier b/c i'm really uncomfortable and ready to move on to the infant stage and leave pregnancy behind!

At any rate, I'm excited to have a new baby on her way and excited and scared to see how our current 1 year old will adjust.

Until next time...hopefully i will have a new baby to talk about!
