S. Palin

This is not about who I'm going to vote for or to push my agenda or whatever. It's merely a way for me to vent my frustration. So my intention is to not necessarily get into a debate but others are totally welcomed to comment and let me know if you have any opinions on the matter.

So John Mccain picked a lady to run with him...pretty cool I think. I heard snippets of her speech last night and have heard people on the news refer to it as legendary, unforgettable, etc.

I think it's pretty cool that she was picked not b/c I'm a Republican and plan to vote for MCcain & Palin, which I'm not anymore and I won't be voting for him (oooh should I have shared that?!), but b/c she's the first woman picked to be in such a high position. How awesome is that?!

The whole reason I'm even writing this post is b/c on the way home from taking W to school this morning I heard on NPR that leading feminists are not supporting Palin (in any way, shape or form) b/c she's Pro Life and against Gay Rights. Now that just infuriates me! Honestly I don't care what she supports or doesn't support at this point in the race. I'm instead infuriated at the fact that they are not supporting the first woman to be picked to run as Vice President!!! Come On!!! This is so huge for women in general!

I thought Feminism was about women having freedom of choice and women having equality??

Now that's a damn shame! ...excuse my language...

You know what's really sad? When my hubby told me on Monday that McCain had picked Palin for his running mate, my first thought was, "Well, so he's trying to pander to the female voters after Hillary stepped out of the race. Does he think we'll all fall for that ploy?" I've become so cynical when it comes to politics, and I honestly don't know who to vote for because I don't trust a word any politician says anymore. They all talk a good talk, but when it comes right down to it, their actions speak louder than their words. Are there any of them who've done any good for the country, lately? I'm hoping someone can show me, soon, because I'm seriously thinking about moving to Canada if changes aren't made here. Hmmm...I may have to blog about this...

Hmm..well, I thought she was FOR gay rights? and I knew she was pro-life. The funny thing is, she is pushing as an anti-abortionist and trying to get laws passed, yet she is giving her daughter the RIGHT to choose what she wants to do with her pregnancy. So, what is going to be a law for other Americans doesn't hold true to her own family?

Also, I don't think that she is qualified. For me, that is what it comes down to. She has NO foreign policy experience...except as Fox News put it "Alaska is close to Russia!" good lord. Anyhow, I would be really, really scared if she was in a position to lead our country with the small bit of experience she has. We should find out a little about McCain's health record before voting them into office is all I'm sayin'....

Oh, and a question I have - Why do we need to "connect" to everyone nowadays? I mean, isn't it okay to LOOK UP to the President of the US without having some deep connection to him/her because they drive their kids to soccer practice like we do? I don't get it.

I do think it's neat that a woman was chosen for a VP ticket, but at that same time I don't support many things that she stands for and will not be voting for her. But at the same time I don't support many of the views of any republican so with that in mind way to go Palin for getting a VP nomination. I do think that is huge.

Not to be pedantic, as this is really beside your point, but Sara Palin is not the first woman to run for Vice President. Geraldine Ferraro did this as Walter Mondale's running mate against Reagen and Bush in 1984 on the Democratic ticket.

Actually, the very first occurance of a female running mate that I am aware of was Tonie Nathan who ran on the Libertarian ticket with John Hospers in 1972.

That said, Ms. Palin is the first Republican woman to run for Vice President.
